This position is on the staff of a not-for-profit, government management consulting organization headquartered in Tysons, Virginia. The Logistics Analyst will assess and analyze the deployment and distribution capabilities of the Department of Defense (DOD) – particularly U.S. Army forces. This mid-career level position is located at Scott Air Force Base, IL and supports the United States Transportation Command (USTRANSCOM) and the Military Surface Deployment Command Transportation Engineering Agency (SDDCTEA). It requires a DOD Secret clearance.


The Logistics Analyst will analyze the deployment and distribution capabilities of Army forces from origin to destination. The Logistics Analyst will conduct research, perform modeling, manage data, integrate results, and prepare client products. Duties and responsibilities include:

  • Conduct research on mobility and Army concepts, practices, policies, procedures, and initiatives to represent realistic activities in modeling and simulation.
  • Identify, access, and manipulate data from various sources.
  • Consult Defense Planning Scenarios (DPS) and/or operations plans (OPLANs) and articulate the deployment demands.
  • Perform quantitative and qualitative analysis of deployment and distribution capabilities using spreadsheet tools and transportation models (specifically AMP and JFAST modeling tools)
  • Think strategically – understanding the Army movement requirements inside the vast global distribution network and the Joint Deployment and Distribution Enterprise (JDDE)
  • Coordinate with government clients and collaborate with JDDE stakeholders such as the Combatant Commands, Military Services, USTRANSCOM Component Commands, Defense Logistics Agency, and industry.
  • Write papers and prepare presentations to substantiate and communicate results of research, modeling, and analysis.
  • Communicate status updates, results, observations, and recommendations in reports and oral presentations.
  • Coordinate and staff products through the agency and with transportation partners.
  • Assist in marketing of consulting services, including market research, teaming arrangements, and competitive analysis.
  • Assist in business performance assessment and reporting.


  • Bachelor’s degree is required; advanced degree is preferred. Degree in engineering, operations research, mathematics, or a related discipline is preferred.
  • Minimum 6 or more years’ US Army transportation experience is required.
  • Working knowledge of or experience with strategic mobility or deployment and distribution operations is desired.
  • Experience with operations research and modeling tools is desired.
  • Ability to work well in a team setting is required.
  • Strong quantitative skills, including the ability to use models and databases is required.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite of tools (Excel, Access, Word, and PowerPoint) is critical.
  • Superior oral and written communication skills are necessary.
  • Demonstrated ability to quickly acquire and apply domain-specific expertise through on-the-job or professional development training.
  • Current U.S. Government Secret security clearance is required.
  • Available for occasional domestic and international travel.
