Overview

LMI, a not-for-profit government consulting firm dedicated to advancing the management of the government, is looking for an editor to join the Corporate Communications Group.

 

The Editor is responsible for reviewing, editing, and coordinating the production of reports and other publications. The Editor is also responsible for ensuring that the publications meet established quality standards and are edited according to agreed-upon schedules.

 

Responsibilities

  • Edit, write, and proofread publications in accordance with established LMI style.

     

    Analyze written communication and make substantive changes when necessary.

     

    Ensure that grammar, structure, readability, and presentation of documents meet LMI and industry standards.

     

    Confer with authors about message, audience, style, and schedule of publications.

     

    Oversee workflow of publications throughout publishing process.

     

    Work with consulting staff members to improve their writing, and guide them in creating effective LMI publications.

     

    Periodically review LMI style standards and help keep them current.

     

    Attend department, project, and team meetings.

     

    Maintain regular attendance.

     

Qualifications

BA in English, Journalism, Communications, or related field. Entry level to 3 years of editing experience. Experience editing analytical or technical reports preferred.

 

Proficient with electronic editing. Experience with publications software, such as Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Excel, preferred.

 

Extensive knowledge of the English language and the mechanics of writing.

 

Working knowledge of publishing processes and professional standards.

 

Strong interpersonal and listening skills.

 

Able to identify and communicate problems.

 

Able to contribute to a professional work environment by demonstrating integrity, promoting teamwork, and fostering positive communication.

 

Able to build and maintain professional relationships with peers.

 

Strong time management skills and the ability to coordinate tasks and set priorities with little supervision. Self-directed and detail-oriented in completing assigned tasks.

 

Able to adapt to changing work efforts and to manage shifting priorities.

 

Willingness to work a flexible schedule during periods of peak demand.

 

Able to maintain familiarity with current LMI policies and procedures.

 

Able to maintain absolute confidentiality in all business matters.

 

Able to obtain security clearance, if required.

 

Able to work for extended periods on PC with heavy use of keyboard to execute tasks.
