Position is on the staff of a private, nonprofit government consulting firm located in Tysons VA. Work is sponsored by Federal Government departments and agencies, including the Department of Health and Human Services and the Department of Defense. Much, but not all of this work entails supporting the following thee programs within the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS): The Federally Facilitated Marketplace, Medicare Advantage and the Medicare Shared Savings Program.


The successful applicant will become part of an analytical team that supports public health systems management projects. Support will include process improvement, understanding functional requirements, analysis of documentation and data analysis. A successful candidate must be able to conduct detail-oriented tasks and analysis projects independently with minimal supervision. Additionally, work will be conducted with various stakeholders to understand data trends, sources, and analysis goals and connect data to business processes and program outcomes, to obtain a deeper understanding of potential considerations and assumptions. This position will involve some travel, potentially up to 20% of the time.


  • Three to five years of experience in health care, business process or data analysis capacity; health care data is preferred.
  • Degree in economics, operations research, information systems, business management (with a quantitative focus), healthcare, healthcare policy, statistics, public policy, or related discipline; with a preference given for graduate degrees.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills and ability to conduct detail oriented tasks and analysis projects independently, with minimal supervision.
  • Strong skills in articulating functional requirements, demonstrating effective communication of the results and implications to a program, being a problem solver, displaying sound judgement and ability to work independently in a fast-paced demanding environment.
  • Ability to absorb large amounts of new technical and policy knowledge without a lot of guidance.
  • Proficient at documenting and synthesizing large amounts of qualitative and quantitative information and data for deliverables such as written reports.
  • Excellent client relations skills.
  • Knowledge of federal health care programs, HIPAA (including X12) and large information systems a plus.
  • Experience working with health care claims or encounter data is a plus.
  • Experience using analytical software packages (e.g., SAS, R, SQL) is a plus.
