    This individual will be responsible for a wide range of analysis and implementation activities related to the client’s sustainability program. The environmental subject matter expert (SME) will provide “full-time” support to a federal agency’s real property program management office located in Washington, DC.

    Responsibilities

    This position will serve as an Environmental Sustainability Specialist and will assist with the development of sustainability projects and reporting. This position will assist the government with:

    • Ensuring compliance with environmental sustainability requirements from Executive Orders, the federal guiding principles and the agency specific Operational Sustainability Performance Plan (OSPP).
    • Oversee energy, water and waste reduction requirements. Develop strategic recommendations to reduce costs associated with energy and water use and waste generation
    • Coordinate with project managers to ensure new construction plans and engineering solutions comply with environmental sustainability requirements
    • Work to incorporate sustainability requirements into existing facilities
    • Analyze energy data of facilities to identify areas of improvement for energy efficiency
    • Collect and track annual greenhouse gas data

    The SME shall have strong communication skills, a demonstrated ability to deliver “innovative solutions”, sound understanding of environmental laws and processes, and possess the skill of “creative problem solving”.

    Qualifications

    • 8+ years’ experience in developing programs to ensure compliance with environmental sustainability requirements from Executive Orders, the federal guiding principles and the agency specific Operational Sustainability Performance Plan (OSPP).
    • Demonstrated ability to effectively work in both a team environment and an independent setting.
    • Familiarity in one or more of the following areas:
      • MSOutlook, MSWord, MSExcel, MSPowerPoint, and Sharepoint
    • Applicants selected for this position will be subject to a comprehensive government security investigation must meet eligibility requirements for access to sensitive information. The background investigation includes financial, criminal, residential, educational, foreign affiliation, and employment verifications.
    • BS in environmental science, sustainability, environmental engineering, or related discipline.
    • Moderate travel will be required.
