  • Overview

Position is on the staff of a private, nonprofit government consulting firm located in McLean, VA.  Work is sponsored by Federal Government departments and agencies, including the Department of Health and Human Services, and the Department of Defense.  Evolving health care policies mandate changing responsibilities on federal agencies which, in turn, require this position to provide operational and analytical support to aid in carrying out new duties.

The successful applicant will become part of a strong analytical team that supports public health systems management projects, primarily the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) programs. Support will include both process improvement initiatives and data analyses; specifically utilizing large, complex data sets to perform health systems, population health, and regulatory compliance analyses.  Duties require working closely with internal and external team members to aggregate detailed program content to succinctly and accurately capture, analyze, and report data.  Additional responsibilities include automating repetitive tasks, helping CMS establish processes to manage operations, and verifying and validating programmatic data.

    • Degree with a quantitative focus. One or more programming courses during college required. Graduate degree desirable.
    • 1-3 years of experience in data analysis and reporting in population health, health services research; or any combination of education and experience which would provide an equivalent background.
    • Knowledge of analytical tools, statistical techniques, health care data, and geographic information systems. Strong quantitative skills using databases and spreadsheets, flow charts, and advanced analysis tools.
    • Ability to query large data sets in Excel/VBA, Stata, SAS, or a similar system. Experience working with individual-level, such as claims, and population-level data desirable.
    • Superior communication and writing skills on technical subjects. Ability to provide narrative context of data analysis to a non-technical audience.
    • Ability to advocate for technical platforms to augment analytical processes and deliverables, including input into IT business requirements.
    • Capability to absorb large amounts of new technical and policy knowledge without a lot of guidance.
    • Experience with audits, compliance, or monitoring desirable.
