    LMI is seeking a Communications Systems Engineer to join the Operational Logistics group assisting our client in the full spectrum of systems and software engineering work. Work location is in the Washington DC area.


    The Communication Systems Engineer position will provide a broad range of support to DoD clients focused on designing communication protocols and defining requirements. LMI’s experience over the past twenty years has revealed a significant communications gap between the DoD logistics enterprise and forward deployed DoD logistics assets and supplies. Specific tasks will include optimizing transport protocols, data routing, encryption, and configuration parameters for particular environments. The Communication Systems Engineer must be able to work independently and perform analysis on ambiguous and large data sets across multiple source systems. Essential functions:

    • Support the entire system engineering lifecycle
    • Coordinate with stakeholders to draft, link, and manage requirements for new system capabilities
    • Produce detailed system design documentation
    • Develop testing specifications and optimize protocols aligned to requirements
    • Design interfaces to improve user experience
    • Develop concept of operations
    • Identify technology use cases and associated benefits
    • Develop test plans and test data gathering using reporting tools or query languages
    • Interface with clients, stakeholders, and leadership to understand requirements and communicate results
    • Translate needs into requirements and develop concept of operations
    • Assess effectiveness and efficiency of logistics technologies
    • Author and publish technical data reports, white papers, proposals, status reports, and other documents
    • Develop data-driven recommendations and present information concisely
    • Perform other duties as assigned



    • Bachelor’s degree in an engineering field and 5+ years of relevant work experience.
    • Must be self-directed and detail oriented.
    • Strong wireless communications systems expertise.
    • Strong networking background.
    • An in-depth working knowledge of requirements definition and tractability.
    • Experience in and knowledge of DoD information systems and wireless communication technologies.
    • Strong problem solving and analytical skills.
    • Strong familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite applications.
    • Experience planning and managing complex analytical tasks.
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
    • Ability to work effectively in a team environment.
    • Ability to travel up to 15%.


    Preferred Experience/Skills

    • Familiarity with DoD uses of logistics technology, including radio frequency identification (RFID) and wireless sensor mesh networks.
    • Background in software, firmware, or hardware design and implementation.
    • In-depth knowledge of at least one programming language.
    • Experience with third party libraries and APIs.
    • Knowledge of Navy information systems.
    • Significant experience in troubleshooting complex software and system issues.
    • Advanced understanding of testing principles and methodologies, software development lifecycles & processes as well as performance, stress, and load testing methodologies.
    • Advanced knowledge related to design, development, integration, and implementation for the following components and functions: wireless sensor mesh networks, remote monitoring capabilities, user interface design, routing protocols, data management, emissions control, cybersecurity controls, symmetric encryption key management and public key infrastructure (PKI) management.
