Overview

LMI is seeking a Data Scientist Expert to support an Intelligence Community client. The client is responsible for the development of the data science cadre, helping leadership make data-driven decisions to enable operations, technology, analysis, and business functions. They need a Data Science Expert to assist in identifying, developing, and sharing established and emerging data science methods and skills to improve insights into intelligence issues. This position will be located in the Reston, VA area.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the design & development of custom training courses on client-specific data science tools, methods, and skills
  • Occasionally co-instruct one or two-day data science courses on topics such as coding best practices
  • Manage and coordinate requirements directly with the Sponsor and internal subject matter experts
  • Demonstrate the ability to frame and scale data problems to analyze, visualize, and find data solutions through projects such as hackathon events
  • Manipulate common data formats, including comma-delimited, text files, and JSON.
  • Transform data and analysis into informative visualizations and interactive dashboards using open-source and commercially available tools.
  • Derive insights and analytic narratives from data and visualizations for effective storytelling and clear communication in response to client research questions.
  • Work in a fast-paced, solutions-oriented environment focused on client deliverables, analysis, and reporting.

Qualifications

  • Active TS/SCI clearance with Polygraph
  • Bachelors in STEM or related field
  • 7+ years of experience in computer science, mathematics, or similar field
  • Working knowledge of appropriate analytic methods and methodological tools in the fields of applied mathematics, computer programming, and data visualization.
  • Intermediate or expert knowledge of Python required
  • Working knowledge of research designs, collection methods, capabilities, and tasking process
  • Ability to leverage multiple data management tools to organize relevant information and make decisions
  • Ability to translate complex, technical findings into an easily understood narrative (i.e., tell a story with the data) in graphical, verbal, or written form
  • Ability to multitask and change focus quickly as demands change
  • Ability to work independently, as well as collaboratively and effectively in a team environment
  • Excellent oral presentation/communication skills

Qualifications (Preferred):

  • Working knowledge of some of the following software/tools preferred: SQL, R, Hadoop, Spark, Java, C/C++, Git, Bash, Tableau, ArcGIS, Unix commands
  • Preferred methodological experience in some of the following areas:
    • Relationships and discovery (correlating, enriching and prioritizing data about activity among actors, devices or facilities to enable the discovery of structure, roles, key relationships and targets)
    • Situational awareness (unifying data into a single context, allowing the current situation to be accurately and quickly understood)
    • Systems modeling (building a computational analog of a real-world system – political, military, economic, social or technical – to understand how it operates, what it is capable of, and how it may react to shocks)
    • Business analytics (supporting data-driven decisions about how we can improve the business of intelligence).
  • Experience developing course materials to train employees on new tools, processes, skillsets, and more.
