Overview

LMI is seeking a skilled Professional Development Specialist at the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), headquarters in Washington, DC. This position will support a professional development and training workstream on a project to modernize and remediate systems and organizational processes within the government agency.

Responsibilities

As the Professional Development Specialist, you will serve the government client by supporting a team providing organizational development expertise and guidance on delivering training and other development opportunities for a unique, highly-skilled workforce. This may include the following activities:

  • Assessing the agency’s current training and development programs and capabilities, identifying gaps, and designing solutions to close those gaps
  • Supporting the design of a training and development program – informed by identification and analysis of training gaps – that provides the workforce the needed skills to meet the agency’s mission and keeps the workforce current
  • Supporting the development of a new virtual learning capability
  • Engaging and collaborating with stakeholders in identifying and leveraging best practices and industry trends
  • Supporting a workforce analysis of instructors and making recommendations on improving the way the agency acquires, employs, develops, and retains its instructors
  • Providing tactical and strategic solutions to the agencies’ need to understand and follow policies, focused on efficiency and proper budget management
  • Working with managers stay connected through communications and stakeholder engagement

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor’s degree, preferably in a discipline related Instructional Design and Development, Organizational Development or Human Resources
  • Five+ years of experience in assessing organizational training needs and implementation of organization learning requirements and instructional program design and implementation.
  • Ability to conduct detailed research and analysis of qualitative and quantitative data
  • Ability to propose and assess capabilities of alternative solutions to meet program needs
  • Strong, demonstrated problem solving experience and communication skills
  • Experience managing teams, projects, and tasks
  • Proficiency in the Microsoft Office suite of tools, including Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Project, and Visio
  • Ability to get DHS public trust security clearance

 

Desired Qualifications:

 Bachelors in Instructional Design and Development, Organizational Development or Human Resources Master’s degree in a discipline related to Instructional Design, Organizational Development, Human Resources

  • Certification in Organizational Learning or Virtual Learning
  • Experience managing complex development efforts in large federal government organizations
  • Existing DHS public trust security clearance
