LMI is seeking a Senior Physicist for the DHS Countering Weapons of Mass Destruction (CWMD) Office to oversee a full range of program management and technical support services for the Systems Support Directorate (SSD) to enhance the nation’s abilities to prevent terrorists and other threat actors from using weapons of mass destruction and support operational partners in closing capability gaps along adversary pathways.

  • Development of characterization and data analysis plans.
  • Scientific and engineering modeling of sensor systems employing new and untested technologies.
  • Technical analysis and interpretation of complex data sets generated by research and development efforts to enhance detection capabilities (e.g. networked sensors, improved algorithms).
  • Support efforts to develop and deploy an information architecture that can flexibly ingest CBRN sensor data and other information streams through a scalable cloud computing infrastructure and perform data analytics to characterize backgrounds, determine patterns, and provide domain awareness.
  • Support efforts to develop methods that identify anomalies to support targeting and interdiction and provide appropriate user interfaces and provide appropriate user interfaces at the local, state, and Federal levels.
  • Support efforts to enhance forensic examination of per-detonation materials.
  • Scientific and technical evaluation of the analyzed results from research and development studies.
  • Generate, edit, and interpret scientific reports based on technical results from CWMD research and development efforts.


  • Masters or Doctorate degree preferred; Bachelor’s required.
  • 10+ years of experience with a Bachelor’s degree, 8+ years of experience with a Masters degree, OR 5+ years of experience with a PhD
  • Strength in any aspect of CBRN (chemical, biological, radiological, and/or nuclear threats) is desired.
  • Experience providing advisory and assistance services to government is a plus, particularly to the DHS CWMD office or the former DNDO and BioWatch.
  • Useful is experience in countermeasure research, analysis, development, prototyping.
  • Experience in development and/or engineering of CWMD solutions is valued, but not required for all positions. We are interested in candidates broadly, from industry, government, and academia.
  • Active Top Secret (with SCI eligibility preferred) clearance desired.
  • Candidates must be able to pass a DHS Suitability Check (US Citizenship required).
