LMI is a consultancy dedicated to powering a future-ready, high-performing government, drawing from expertise in digital and analytic solutions, logistics, and management advisory services. We deliver integrated capabilities that incorporate emerging technologies and are tailored to customers’ unique mission needs, backed by objective research and data analysis. Founded in 1961 to help the Department of Defense resolve complex logistics management challenges, LMI continues to enable growth and transformation, enhance operational readiness and resiliency, and ensure mission success for federal civilian and defense agencies.

LMI is seeking a Senior Technical Advisor for our work with the Defense Advanced Projects Research Agency (DARPA) in support of their ongoing strategic projects.

  • Act as senior technical advisor to our test and evaluation team, providing the technical strategy and direction that will bridge the gap between the sponsor technical vision and progress by performer teams.
  • Lead team in designing and developing rigorous evaluation protocols and statistical tests that evaluate aspects of model validity (error relative to reference data, confidence measures) and suitability (model sensitivity and boundaries of operation, bias, variance). This must be accomplished for low level models that perform basic functions, and also for increasing levels of composition as low level models are integrated to resolve more complicated functions.
  • Innovate evaluation metrics with robust statistical foundations that consider the specific technical approaches of models to be evaluated.
  • Construct tests and evaluation approaches that are able to isolate and assess uncertainty as it applies to model structure, parameters, and data.
  • Design automated pipelines to appropriately streamline components of the evaluation process wherever feasible.
  • Engage with sponsor(s) to determine technical requirements and communicate technical approach amongst the internal team and performer teams.
  • Draft white papers (and develop any necessary analytical excursions to provide evidence) that present, defend, and detail our technical approach.
  • Support sponsor with succinct abstracts, descriptions, graphics, and other collateral that will facilitate sponsor-developed briefings on research progress made by the program.

  • PhD in mathematics, statistics, economics, or similar field required
  • Ability to obtain an interim TS clearance required (US Citizenship required)
  • Deep theoretical knowledge of and practical experience with advanced statistical testing, state estimation, and causal inference techniques
  • Advanced understanding of expert models, Bayesian modeling and inference, system dynamics models
  • Experience with processing and analyzing large-scale datasets
  • Working knowledge of logistics or supply chain concepts is a plus
  • Previous DARPA T&E experience is strongly preferred
  • Past performance in a test and evaluation for research-focused organizations is preferred
