Overview

LMI is seeking a Data Engineer to provide support to the NASA OIG's Office of Data Analytics (ODA).  The Data Engineer will support ODA's Data Analytics Infrastructure Services, helping OIG and ODA modernize their analytic infrastructure through cloud migration and data pipeline development.  The Data Engineer will work cross-functionally to build cloud-based infrastructure roadmaps, stand up analytic architecture and services, and enable data product development through automation processes. This role involves hands-on migration of analytics products to the cloud, liaising with IT teams, and providing technical expertise in cloud-native tools and solutions.

Responsibilities

  • Develop an analytic infrastructure roadmap to transition data analytics infrastructure services to a cloud analytics environment.
  • Assist in designing and implementing analytic architecture within a cloud framework.
  • Support data automation processes to enhance efficiency and streamline operations.
  • Provide project management support, ensuring effective coordination and execution of data analytics infrastructure services initiatives.
  • Perform hands-on migration of analytics products and services to a cloud environment, ensuring minimal disruption and optimal performance.
  • Develop and implement modernization strategies for existing data analytics infrastructure, utilizing cloud-native tools and services.
  • Optimize cloud architecture and infrastructure to improve scalability, security, and cost-efficiency for analytic operations.
  • Liaise with OIG IT and other entities to facilitate communication and collaboration.
  • Deliver data analytic consulting services to identify methods, tools, and solutions for audit projects.
  • Develop and implement a variety of data analytic products and services, including analyses, data mining, reports, dashboards, and data visualizations.
  • Collaborate with subject matter experts to enhance data analytic solutions and ensure alignment with audit objectives.
  • Acquire and maintain data from NASA, OIG peers, and open-source platforms.
  • Demonstrate leadership and soft skills to ensure customer satisfaction and effective project management.

Qualifications

Minimum:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Data Science, Information Systems, Computer Science, or a related field.
  • Experience with cloud analytics environments and cloud infrastructure.
  • Proficiency in data analytics tools and programming languages (e.g., Python, SQL, R).
  • Proven hands-on experience in migrating data analytics products to cloud platforms such as AWS.
  • Proficiency in cloud-native tools and services for analytics and data processing (e.g., AWS Redshift, Glue, S3, Lambda, RDS, etc.).
  • Strong technical skills in configuring, deploying, and managing cloud infrastructure components relevant to data analytics.
  • Strong understanding of data automation and analytic architecture design.
  • Experience in project management within a technical or data analytics context.Excellent communication skills for writing reports and collaborating with diverse teams.
  • Ability to liaise effectively with IT and other organizational entities.

Preferred:

  • Master’s degree in a relevant field.
  • Relevant certifications in cloud computing, data analytics, or project management (e.g., AWS Certified Solutions Architect, Certified Data Analyst, PMP).
  • Experience working with NASA's cloud environment capabilities.
  • Experience in designing and executing cloud modernization initiatives for legacy analytic systems.
  • Familiarity with Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools such as Terraform or CloudFormation to automate cloud deployments and configurations.
  • Expertise in optimizing cloud environments for performance, security, and cost, with a focus on analytics workloads.
  • Demonstrated expertise in developing complex dashboards and data visualization solutions.
  • Previous experience in an audit or government setting.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to deliver innovative solutions.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and prioritize tasks effectively.

The salary range displayed represents the typical salary range for this position and is not a guarantee of compensation. Individual salaries are determined by various factors including, but not limited to location, internal equity, business considerations, client contract requirements, and candidate qualifications, such as education, experience, skills, and security clearances. 

The salary range for this position is $140,000-$160,000.
