Overview

LMI is seeking an experienced Electrical Engineer to support a federal program management office (PMO) charged with planning, acquiring, and managing the deployment and operation of technology and capabilities to keep our borders safe.  We are seeking an energetic self-starter who is focused on practical and efficient solutions delivered by an interdisciplinary, collaborative team.  This individual will support the design and construction of our client’s tactical technology infrastructure projects along the southwest border. The civil engineer will provide support to the client’s program management office, located in Washington, D.C. Travel required.

Responsibilities

  1. Support a federal agency’s technical division and act as a subject matter expert for electrical engineering matters
  2. Utilize subject matter expertise to deliver solutions to engineering requirements for DHS projects to include both new construction and maintenance and repair of existing real property
  3. Communicate with senior leadership; engineering subject matter experts (SMEs), project managers and facility managers about issues and solutions regarding project requirements
  4. Perform quality assurance reviews of design documents and engineering studies, and provide associated technical recommendations
  5. Review project progress from an engineering perspective, measuring performance and proposing necessary corrective actions to maintain agreed-upon requirements
  6. Travel to project sites at geographically dispersed locations nationwide as required to verify progress of work, ensure conformity with specifications and accepted engineering practices, attend program management reviews and contribute to technical Integrated Project Teams
  7. Provide engineering inputs to cost estimates; utilize value engineering analysis as needed
  8. Assist with all aspects of facility development, including planning, programming, design and construction phases
  9. Provide input on appropriate standards, and guidelines, as well as interpretation and compliance for building code and regulations.
  10. Collaborate with other BPAM personnel including other architects, engineers, project managers, facility managers, planning and budget staff
  11. Oversee the execution of engineering projects as needed
  12. Evaluate backup power requirements including power generations (generator, solar, combinations) as well as evaluating overall requirement

  13. All positions will have up to 50% travel.

Qualifications

  1. 8+ years of relevant experience and a Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering.
  2. A current Professional Engineer (PE) license or Engineer-in Training (EIT) certification preferred.
  3. Project Management Professional (PMP) certification, Certified Construction Manager (CCM), or other industry-related certification is a plus.
  4. Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, and SharePoint.
  5. Ability to read construction documents, including drawings, specifications and RFPs
  6. Ability to communicate clearly with a variety of stakeholders.
  7. Ability to effectively solve problems.
  8. Strong communication skills, both oral and written.
  9. Available for approximately 20% travel.
  10. Ability to pass a government background investigation, including financial, criminal, residential, educational, foreign affiliation, prohibited substance abuse, and employment verifications; active U.S. Customs and Border Protection background investigation (CBP BI) preferred.
