Overview

LMI is seeking a Component Liaison to support the SMART Scholarship Program. The purpose of the Science, Mathematics, and Research for Transformation (SMART) Scholarship for Service Program is to produce the next generation of highly skilled DoD science and technology (S&T) leaders. SMART is a scholarship for service program that provides academic funding to undergraduate and graduate students who have demonstrated ability and special aptitude for exceling in STEM fields.  In exchange, students complete a period of full-time employment with the DoD where they are provided opportunities to further their work and research in civil service roles.  The result is that the SMART Program strengthens the DoD by placing high performers into civilian STEM positions thereby enhancing specific facility mission delivery. The function of the Component Liaison is to support the military components by coordinating between the components and SMART Program, disseminating information, managing the selection process, resolving issues, facilitating the hiring process, and ensuring bi-directional communication.

Responsibilities

Duties and Responsibilities: 

  • Promote SMART within the components to include site visitations, conduct briefings at all levels of leadership, update and inform sponsoring facilities (SF) on program policy and best practices
  • Provide support, resources and direction to SF POCs to implement SMART within the organization and remain a direct link to the program
  • Help SFs establish procedures and guidelines to manage their program by providing interface support, ensuring consistency across facilities and components
  • Manage the selection process for the components
  • Develop and implement a component specific marketing plan to ensure all associated labs, systems commands and program offices are made aware of the objectives of the program
  • Ensure communications flow bi-directionally between Program Manager, SMART Program Personnel, and the components
  • During the internship phase; educate and help mentors and SF POCs understand their roles and responsibilities
  • Assist with the resolution of scholar issues
  • Coordinate and stay engaged with the hiring process of scholars, assisting SF with hiring issues
  • Provide and confirm documentation of program requirement completion to facilitate scholar hiring
  • Educate scholars regarding performance and behavior expectations while on internships and employment with the DoD.
  • Engage with SMART Scholars during their service commitment and beyond
  • Participate in regular and ad hoc meetings
  • Respond to component specific data calls with quick suspense requirements
  • Perform tasks related to program default cases
  • Provide support in development of briefing materials, data summaries
  • Provide support on special projects as required
  • Other tasks as assigned

Qualifications

Required:

  • Minimum 3 years of experience in administrative, academic, customer service, or related field
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Ability to maintain a professional demeanor at all times
  • Ability to work well within a team environment
  • Ability to work well in a dynamic and fast-paced environment while continually meeting deadlines
  • Must be a citizen of the United States of America
  • Minimum 18 years of age
  • Ability to speak, read and write fluent English
  • Ability to travel approximately 25%

 

Preferred:

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Federal and/or Department of Defense experience
  • Experience working in academic environment
  • Proficient in Adobe Acrobat Professional
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance from the DoD

 

Target salary range: $90,000 - $135,000. Final compensation will be determined by a variety of factors including but not limited to your skills, experience, education, and/or certifications.

Individual salaries are determined by various factors including, but not limited to location, internal equity, business considerations, client contract requirements, and candidate qualifications, such as education, experience, skills, and security clearances.
