Responsibilities

Who We Are

We’re not here to maintain the status quo – we’re here to rewrite it and innovate at the pace of need. Our team is laser-focused on building next-generation tracking and sensing technology for the DoD, and we’re expanding our footprint from software into a full-stack hardware line of business.

We’re standing up a new hardware capability focused on delivering rugged, mission-ready IoT devices to the field—fast. If you're ready to take ownership of a high-impact program from the ground up and turn prototypes into real-world solutions, read on.

The Opportunity

We’re looking for a General Manager of Hardware to build and scale our IoT hardware business line. You’ll take early-stage prototypes developed by a small embedded systems team and lead the transformation into production-ready tags, sensors, and edge devices built for the warfighter.

This is a Director-level role where you’ll own the entire hardware lifecycle—from prototyping and contract manufacturing to quality assurance, supply chain, and delivery. You’ll build and lead a small, highly capable team while working cross-functionally with product, engineering, and operations to ship real hardware into the field.

What You'll Do

  • Lead the maturation of early hardware designs into scalable, production-ready defense-grade solutions.
  • Manage external design and manufacturing partners, including contract manufacturers and industrial designers.
  • Translate embedded system concepts into manufacturable PCB designs with attention to cost, durability, and environmental performance.
  • Build and oversee a QA and testing framework for hardware verification and field-readiness.
  • Design the manufacturing and assembly process from scratch, including BOM optimization and yield improvement.
  • Oversee compliance with relevant certifications (e.g., MIL-STD, FIPS, TAA, FCC, etc.).
  • Support hardware prototyping, revision control, and field testing for rugged environments.
  • Partner with software, firmware, and DevSecOps teams to ensure seamless integration and delivery across the stack.
  • Provide clear reporting and roadmap leadership to executives on cost, delivery timelines, risks, and growth opportunities.

Qualifications

What We’re Looking For

  • 8+ years of experience in hardware product development and manufacturing, ideally in RF, embedded systems, IoT, or defense.
  • Proven track record taking hardware products from prototype to full-scale production.
  • Experience managing contract manufacturers and external design teams.
  • Strong grasp of PCB design workflows, Design for Manufacturing (DFM) / Design for Testing (DFT) principles, and component sourcing.
  • Familiarity with ruggedized or mission-critical systems (MIL-STD, IP ratings, etc.).
  • Hands-on leadership with a builder’s mindset—comfortable owning strategy and jumping into the weeds.
  • S. Citizenship with the ability to obtain and maintain a government security clearance.

Bonus Points For

  • Past experience building tags, sensors, or RFID devices for defense, logistics, or industrial use cases.
  • Familiarity with secure supply chain practices (FIPS, TAA, NDAA compliance).
  • Experience in early-stage companies or spin-out business lines.
  • Knowledge of low-power design, cellular/LTE/LoRa/Bluetooth modules.
  • Technical degree in EE, ME, or related field. MBA or product/ops background a plus.

Why This Role Matters

This is more than a leadership position—it’s an opportunity to launch a new business line that supports our national defense. You’ll own a greenfield opportunity with the backing of a fast-moving team and real mission impact.
