LMI seeks a Technical Writer/Editor to support a federal program management office onsite in Washington, DC. Responsibilities

You will provide technical editing and writing support to a federal law enforcement organization charged with ensuring excellence in operations, partnerships, technology, and innovation. Responsibilities include:

  • Copyediting executive-level documentation, briefings, speeches, and other types of internal correspondence, with the ability to mark substantive changes when necessary.
  • Creating high-level technical documentation incorporating prior documentation, existing templates and stakeholder requirements and input.
  • Developing and following an organizational structure for multi-volume documents to ensure consistency and completeness throughout the volumes.
  • Engaging with stakeholders, including planners, operators and technical authorities, to gather and incorporate document input.
  • Writing and developing executive summaries and briefings from larger, vetted documents.
  • Determining and applying the appropriate level of review—i.e., knowing when to proofread, copyedit, or substantively edit content.
  • Ensuring that grammar, syntax, structure, flow, readability, and presentation of documents meet client and industry standards.
  • Conferring with authors and subject matter experts about the deliverable’s intended message, audience, style, and schedule of publication.
  • Overseeing workflow of publications throughout the approval process, sometimes serving as the last set of eyes.

Qualifications

  • Ability to pass a government background investigation, including financial, criminal, residential, educational, foreign affiliation, prohibited substance abuse, and employment verifications; active U.S. Customs and Border Protection background investigation preferred. Please note that only U.S. citizens are eligible for a suitability determination.
  • 3–10 years of experience and a bachelor’s degree in English, Management, or a related discipline.
  • Prior technical editing and writing experience.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft 365 programs (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, and SharePoint), with advanced knowledge of Word’s Track Changes functionality and ability to perform basic document formatting.
  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills, both verbal and written, excellent organizational skills, the ability to establish and maintain working relationships with internal and external staff members, and the ability to work independently and take a proactive role.
  • Strong time management skills and ability to coordinate tasks and set priorities with little supervision. Self-directed and detail-oriented in completing assigned tasks.
  • A true team player who maintains a positive attitude in a dynamic environment.

 

Target salary range: $82,025-120,000.
