Overview

LMI is seeking a Director, Naval Special Warfare Programs to lead the delivery, growth, and operational integration of LMI’s portfolio supporting Naval Special Warfare (NSW). This position requires regular engagement with Naval Special Warfare commands and supported organizations at locations including Coronado, California, Little Creek, VA and other mission sites. The role requires an active Top-Secret security clearance. Regular travel is required.

This role retains direct responsibility for NSW program execution while expanding leadership accountability across customer relationships, technical integration, workforce, financial performance, and business growth. The Director will serve as LMI’s senior portfolio leader for NSW, synchronizing program managers, technical leads, site personnel, engineers, operators, product teams, and partners across geographically dispersed efforts. The ideal candidate is a trusted Special Operations leader with the operational credibility, technical fluency, business judgment, and organizational leadership required to convert mission needs into executable programs and sustained customer outcomes.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as LMI’s senior leader and accountable portfolio owner for programs, projects, personnel, and growth activities supporting Naval Special Warfare.
  • Retain direct responsibility for the execution of active NSW programs, ensuring performance against schedule, technical, contractual, security, and quality requirements.
  • Own customer satisfaction and mission outcomes across the NSW portfolio, maintaining a clear understanding of customer priorities, operational friction points, and emerging requirements.
  • Build and sustain trusted relationships with NSW headquarters, Groups, operational units, requirements organizations, program offices, acquisition personnel, test organizations, technical leaders, and mission partners.
  • Develop and execute an integrated NSW portfolio strategy and annual operating plan aligned with customer priorities and LMI’s Robotics and Autonomous Systems business strategy.
  • Translate NSW mission needs into executable roadmaps and coordinated lines of effort spanning robotics and autonomous systems, uncrewed systems, command and control, mission software, data, artificial intelligence, experimentation, training, fielding, and sustainment.
  • Lead and synchronize program managers, technical program managers, site leads, liaison officers, technical integrators, engineers, operators, product teams, subcontractors, and corporate support functions across distributed locations.
  • Establish clear governance, decision rights, operating rhythms, performance metrics, and accountability mechanisms across the portfolio; drive timely closure of actions, risks, issues, dependencies, and customer decisions.
  • Own workforce planning for the NSW portfolio, including organizational design, staffing forecasts, recruiting priorities, onboarding, performance management, professional development, succession planning, retention, and team culture.
  • Mentor and develop emerging leaders while ensuring program managers and technical leads have the authority, resources, and executive support required to deliver.
  • Oversee technical and operational integration of LMI, government, commercial, and partner capabilities, ensuring disciplined configuration management, interoperability, cybersecurity, safety, and mission relevance.
  • Plan and oversee demonstrations, experiments, exercises, test events, fielding activities, training, and operational assessments; ensure lessons learned and user feedback are converted into prioritized improvements.
  • Provide concise, decision-ready reporting to NSW and LMI leadership on portfolio performance, customer priorities, delivery status, workforce, risks, and recommended actions.
  • Identify adjacent customer needs and lead account growth activities, including opportunity qualification, requirement shaping, capture, solution development, proposals, staffing strategies, and teaming.
  • Develop and manage strategic relationships with technology companies, manufacturers, research organizations, and other mission partners that strengthen LMI’s ability to deliver integrated capability to NSW.
  • Coordinate with LMI product, engineering, autonomy, software, data, operations, contracts, talent, security, and growth leaders to bring the full organization to bear on NSW priorities.
  • Ensure portfolio activities comply with applicable contract requirements, security policies, cybersecurity standards, export controls, property accountability, safety requirements, and LMI governance.
  • Represent LMI at senior customer engagements, industry events, operational demonstrations, and other forums relevant to the NSW mission and growth strategy.

Qualifications

  • An active Top-Secret security clearance.
  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, computer science, cybersecurity, business, program management, operations, or a related field. Four additional years of directly relevant experience may be substituted for the degree requirement.
  • Fifteen or more years of progressively responsible experience leading complex Department of Defense, national security, technology, or mission-support programs.
  • Ten or more years of direct experience supporting Special Operations Forces, with demonstrated understanding of SOF missions, organizations, operational culture, and decision-making processes.
  • Demonstrated experience leading a multi-program or multi-project portfolio with accountability for delivery, customer relationships, personnel, risk, and growth.
  • Proven ability to lead geographically distributed, cross-functional teams composed of program managers, operators, engineers, technologists, analysts, and business professionals.
  • Recent experience supporting NSW organizations at Coronado, California; Little Creek, Virginia; or other NSW operating locations.
  • Prior military service in Naval Special Warfare, Joint Special Operations Command, a Special Operations communications or mission-systems organization, or another directly relevant SOF assignment.
  • Direct experience integrating robotics, autonomous systems, uncrewed aerial, surface, or ground systems, tactical communications, command and control, intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance, electronic warfare, data platforms, or mission software.
  • Experience translating complex mission requirements into integrated technical and operational solutions, executable plans, resource requirements, and measurable outcomes.
  • Working knowledge of robotics and autonomous systems, uncrewed systems, mission command and control, communications, mission software, data integration, artificial intelligence, test and evaluation, fielding, training, or sustainment.
  • Strong program and portfolio management skills, including schedule, performance, staffing, subcontractor oversight, risk management, quality assurance, and executive reporting.
  • Experience supporting business development, capture, proposal development, solutioning, pricing, teaming, or organic account growth within the federal market.
  • Knowledge of Department of Defense acquisition, contracting, security, cybersecurity, requirements, test, and operational approval processes relevant to rapid capability development and fielding.
  • Exceptional communication, interpersonal, negotiation, and executive briefing skills, with the ability to adapt effectively across operational, technical, acquisition, and corporate audiences.
  • Ability to travel regularly to NSW commands, supported units, test locations, demonstrations, and other mission sites.

 

Desired Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in cybersecurity, information systems, engineering, business administration, national security, or a related field.
  • Direct experience integrating robotics, autonomous systems, uncrewed aerial, surface, or ground systems, tactical communications, command and control, intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance, electronic warfare, data platforms, or mission software.
  • Experience leading technical experimentation, operational testing, demonstrations, exercises, fielding, and transition of emerging capabilities to operational users.
  • Experience with rapid acquisition pathways such as Other Transaction Authority, Small Business Innovation Research Phase III, Commercial Solutions Opening, Broad Agency Announcement, or similar mechanisms.
  • Experience managing strategic technology partners, manufacturers, subcontractors, and nontraditional defense companies in support of integrated mission outcomes.
  • Project Management Professional, Defense Acquisition Workforce Improvement Act, Agile, systems engineering, cybersecurity, test and evaluation, or related professional certification.

 

Target salary range: $150,000 - $230,000
