LMI is seeking a Forward Deployed Engineer (FDE) to deploy, integrate, and extend SPECTR, our mission-focused asset visibility and sensor platform supporting Department of Defense customers. This is a hands-on engineering role for someone who can work directly with users, understand operational problems, and rapidly turn requirements into working technical solutions. You’ll operate at the intersection of software engineering, systems integration, and field delivery—configuring deployments, integrating customer systems and data, troubleshooting across the stack, and building new capabilities when configuration alone isn’t enough.
This position requires an active Secret clearance. LMI is a new breed of digital solutions provider dedicated to accelerating government impact with innovation and speed. Investing in technology and prototypes ahead of need, LMI brings commercial-grade platforms and mission-ready AI to federal agencies at commercial speed.
Remote (U.S.-Based) | 50–75% Travel Required
We’re looking for an engineer who likes building where the mission happens. You’ll work directly with DoD customers and alongside our Product, Mission Engineering, and core engineering teams to get SPECTR working in real-world environments. Some problems will require configuration. Others will require an API integration, script, deployment change, or new software capability. Your job is to figure out what’s needed, build it, validate it with users, and help turn field solutions into repeatable product capability.
Deploy, configure, integrate, and validate SPECTR in customer environments.
Work directly with DoD users to understand mission workflows, technical constraints, and operational pain points.
Integrate SPECTR with customer systems, APIs, databases, data sources, networks, and mission applications.
Build production-quality integrations, APIs, scripts, automation, and software capabilities to solve field requirements.
Troubleshoot issues across applications, databases, containers, cloud infrastructure, networking, and connected edge systems.
Support technical demonstrations, pilots, field tests, and operational deployments.
Partner with Field Product Leads to translate operational needs into technical solutions and Capability Requests.
Work with core engineering teams to transition useful field-developed capabilities into the SPECTR product.
Document configurations, technical solutions, and lessons learned to make future deployments faster and more repeatable.
Travel approximately 50–75% to DoD installations and other customer locations.
Active DoD Secret clearance.
4+ years of software engineering, systems integration, solutions engineering, or similar technical experience.
Strong development skills in C#, Python, JavaScript/TypeScript, or similar languages.
Experience developing and integrating REST APIs and working with relational databases/SQL.
Hands-on experience deploying and troubleshooting production software.
Experience with Linux, Docker, Git, and CI/CD pipelines.
Familiarity with cloud infrastructure, preferably AWS/AWS GovCloud.
Strong understanding of networking fundamentals and distributed system troubleshooting.
Ability to translate ambiguous customer requirements into working technical solutions.
Strong communication skills and comfort working directly with technical and operational DoD stakeholders.
Ability to operate independently, solve problems quickly, and work effectively in field environments.
U.S. Citizenship required.
Ability to travel 50–75%.
Experience delivering software or integrated systems in DoD environments.
Experience with RFID, IoT, sensor systems, edge computing, or asset tracking.
Experience with .NET/C#, AWS GovCloud, Kubernetes, Terraform, or GitLab.
Familiarity with RMF/ATO, IL5/IL6, or other DoD cybersecurity requirements.
Experience deploying applications in disconnected, bandwidth-constrained, or edge environments.
Experience rapidly prototyping solutions directly with customers.
Security+, AWS, Kubernetes, or related certifications.
Active Top Secret clearance.
SPECTR has to work where the mission happens—not just in a development environment. You’ll shorten the distance between “the customer needs this” and “it works in the field,” while helping turn lessons from each deployment into a stronger, more scalable product.
