Overview

LMI is seeking a Front-End Developer/Power Platform Developer to build Microsoft-native analytics, workflow, and user-facing business solutions for Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) modernization initiatives. The role delivers Power BI dashboards, Power Apps, Power Automate workflows, SharePoint solutions, and lightweight applications with strong attention to usability, accessibility, data design, and maintainability.

This position follows a hybrid work model, with an expectation of approximately 25% onsite presence at LMI’s Tysons headquarters or Washington, DC.

The Front-end Developer/Power Platform Developer is a hands-on Microsoft-platform builder responsible for turning business processes and data needs into usable, maintainable solutions. The role spans analytics and application development, so the successful candidate should be equally comfortable shaping a data model, building a workflow, designing a form, and improving the end-user experience.

The position requires practical judgment about platform fit and governance. A strong candidate will know how to work within enterprise environments, avoid unnecessary complexity, design for accessibility, and build solutions that can be supported after handoff rather than relying on fragile personal configurations.

Because the platform can enable rapid development, this role must know when to slow down enough to establish sound structure. The developer should actively manage data design, permissions, environment strategy, component reuse, naming, documentation, and performance so rapid solutions do not become difficult to govern or support.

The ideal candidate is a hands-on builder who can translate stakeholder needs into clean data models, workflow logic, forms, reports, and production-ready low-code solutions.

Responsibilities

  • Design and build Power BI dashboards, reports, semantic models, measures, and decision-support products.
  • Develop Power Apps, Power Automate workflows, SharePoint lists/libraries, forms, approvals, and notifications.
  • Translate requirements into data structures, relationships, DAX, Power Query, workflow logic, and user-facing functions.
  • Apply practical UX and Section 508/WCAG principles to dashboards, applications, forms, and documentation.
  • Prepare and validate data; coordinate reporting-ready models with data and integration resources.
  • Support UAT, defect resolution, change requests, deployment, and user knowledge transfer.
  • Maintain technical documentation, SOPs, data definitions, solution ownership, and versioning.
  • Integrate with APIs, Dataverse, Microsoft 365, or other approved services when required.
  • Design Power Platform solution architecture across Power BI, Power Apps, Power Automate, SharePoint, Dataverse, connectors, data sources, permissions, environments, and lifecycle management.
  • Build maintainable semantic models, DAX measures, Power Query transformations, reusable components, forms, workflows, notifications, approvals, and audit-friendly business logic.
  • Apply application lifecycle management, solution packaging, environment configuration, versioning, release, security-role, and support practices appropriate to enterprise Power Platform delivery.
  • Troubleshoot performance, delegation, connector, refresh, permission, usability, and data-quality issues and optimize solutions before release.
  • Facilitate solution-design sessions with users and stakeholders to confirm workflow, data, roles, exception paths, usability, reporting needs, and the appropriate Power Platform component before building.
  • Apply accessibility and responsive-design practices throughout development and validate behavior with representative users, devices, permissions, data volumes, and real-world workflow conditions.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in information systems, business analytics, computer science, data analytics, engineering, or a related field; equivalent experience may be considered.
  • 3+ years developing business-intelligence, low-code, workflow-automation, or data-visualization solutions.
  • Hands-on Power BI skills in data modeling, DAX, Power Query, report design, publishing, and governance.
  • Hands-on Power Apps, Power Automate, SharePoint, Microsoft 365, and basic SQL/data-preparation experience.
  • Recommended certification: Microsoft Power Platform Developer or Power BI Data Analyst credential.
  • Ability to satisfy VA personnel vetting and applicable security, privacy, accessibility, records, and data-handling requirements.
  • Demonstrated end-to-end experience delivering Power Platform solutions from requirements through design, build, testing, deployment, documentation, and user handoff.
  • Strong Power BI skills in semantic modeling, DAX, Power Query, performance optimization, security, publishing, and data-refresh behavior, plus practical Power Apps/Power Automate experience.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft 365 governance, Dataverse or SharePoint data structures, connectors/APIs, identity/permissions, accessibility, and maintainable UX patterns.
  • Strong troubleshooting skills across Power BI refresh/model issues, Power Apps formulas and delegation, Power Automate failures, connector behavior, SharePoint/Dataverse permissions, and environment configuration.
  • Ability to balance user requests with platform governance, maintainability, licensing, security, data architecture, and performance constraints and to explain those tradeoffs clearly.

Desired Qualifications

  • 5+ years delivering Power Platform, BI, workflow automation, or Microsoft 365 solutions in federal or regulated environments.
  • Experience with Dataverse, APIs, SQL Server, Azure services, custom SharePoint formatting, or .NET integration.
  • Experience with Section 508/WCAG testing, UAT, ALM, solution packaging, and production support.
  • Additional Microsoft Power Platform, Azure, or accessibility certification is preferred.
  • Experience with complex Power Apps, custom connectors, Dataverse, Azure integration, JavaScript/TypeScript, .NET, or other extension patterns is preferred for solutions that exceed standard configuration.
  • Microsoft PL-300, PL-400, PL-500, PL-600, or related Power Platform certifications are strongly preferred depending on the candidate's primary specialty.
  • Experience working within a Power Platform Center of Excellence, managed-environment strategy, enterprise ALM model, or formal governance framework is preferred.
  • Experience creating reusable components, solution templates, connector patterns, design standards, or technical guidance for other Power Platform makers is beneficial.
